What is dc in dnd?

In Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), DC stands for Difficulty Class. It is a number that represents the level of challenge of a certain task or action that a player character wants to accomplish. Whenever a player attempts to perform an action (such as attacking an enemy, picking a lock, or persuading a non-player character), the Dungeon Master (DM) assigns a DC to determine how difficult it is to succeed.

Players roll a 20-sided die (d20) and add relevant modifiers to their roll in order to meet or exceed the DC. If the result meets or exceeds the DC, the player successfully accomplishes the task. If the result falls short of the DC, the task is considered a failure.

DCs can vary depending on the complexity of the task and the circumstances surrounding it. Generally, lower DCs are assigned to easier tasks, while higher DCs are assigned to more difficult tasks. The DM ultimately decides what the appropriate DC should be for any given situation.
